DPM Sar Kheng: The risk of traffic accidents is a long-term challenge

Battambang: Speaking on the occasion of the 13th National Road Safety Week, which was held at Veal Bek Chan Football Stadium in Battambang this morning, 12 April 2022, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Safety Committee Road traffic Sar Kheng says the risk of road accidents is a long-term challenge, although there is a decrease in 2020 and 2021, but the number of accidents is likely to increase after Covid 19 outbreak.

He stated that the National Road Safety Week is a reminder and wake-up call for people to pay attention, respect the law and be moral, understanding and tolerant at all times, traveling on the road brings safety and enjoyment of families gatherings in Cambodia society that are complete peaceful, developed, have economic growth, especially roads and bridges connecting all parts of the country and connecting with neighboring countries, improving the living standards of the people.

He said: "Therefore, traffic accidents are a risk that causes catastrophic loss of life, loss of limbs and damage to property, which requires everyone to respect the traffic law to reduce the rate of traffic accidents in Cambodia.”

According to DPM Sar Kheng, traffic accidents have a higher death rate and injuries than other accidents, with an average of 5 deaths and 14 injuries per day. In the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, there were 869 traffic accidents, an increase of 106, while the number of fatalities was 493, an increase of 60.
